Standing Your Ground
We are often challenged in life, and one common test that comes up for us centers around others trying to make decisions for us or manipulating us to change our mind on something we’ve already decided. Oftentimes people will assume that they know what’s best for us, or they’ll give unsolicited advice that has an edge of disapproval regarding an aspect of our lives. In these moments, it’s important to consult with your intuition before allowing someone else to sway you. You know yourself better than anyone else does, and your inner guidance system is the ultimate authority on what’s right or wrong for you personally. If you know that you’re comfortable with the decision you’ve made, it’s perfectly reasonable to discard any unwanted opinions of others regardless of who presented them to you.
Assuming that you’re an adult who’s fully capable of taking care of yourself and making your life choices, there’s no one else on this planet who you need to defer to when making important decisions. I’ve previously been in the habit of seeking out a sounding board from many people before making a concrete decision, and I used to take all perspectives into account before I made a choice. This isn’t always a bad thing, and sometimes I still seek out other perspectives, but I now feel comfortable making most choices for myself without seeking external validation. The more I trust myself and my ability to take care of myself, the safer I feel taking the reigns in my life without looking around for someone to tell me it’s okay. Developing this level of self-trust takes time and trial and error, but it’s worth it to feel free in your life and discover what you truly want.
Your heart is constantly guiding you, and it’s your job to learn how to hear and interpret what your heart is telling you. Bringing your energy into your body and finding a state of balance is essential in this endeavor, especially when others are challenging your viewpoints and choices. When someone else believes they know better for you and they attempt to usurp your authority in your own life, they are undermining your inner knowing even if they have good intentions. Sometimes people will try this with me, and I have found that standing my ground in the moment prevents me from getting thrown off course even if I consider their opinion after our interaction is over. When someone tries to convince you that you should change your mind on something, it’s a good practice to state your position firmly and keep details to a minimum to avoid creating an opportunity for an argument to occur.
No one has the right to debate you about your life choices, and you can prevent that discussion from happening by disengaging right away. This will allow you to preserve more of your energy and peace. We don’t have to give people the opportunity to offer feedback about our lives, and keeping that in mind can protect you when someone is attempting to insert themselves into your business. You have a right to privacy, and you don’t owe anyone all of the details. You don’t have to explain your opinion or justify your decisions. When someone chips in unprompted, it’s okay to dismiss their suggestions without sharing your reasoning with them. They have no position to argue their viewpoint, especially if they’re not directly involved in the matter at hand. When you step fully into your role as the authority in your life, there’s no opening for others to try to step in to make choices for you.
We’re all on our own journey in this life, and it can be tempting to look to external authority to take the pressure off of yourself when things get difficult, but that ultimately cripples you as a person. If you give yourself the freedom to run your own life and follow your intuitive guidance, you’ll avoid succumbing to the pitfalls of following bad advice. Your higher guidance will never lead you astray, and if it feels that way, you haven’t made it to the other side of your challenge yet. Your higher self is guiding you every step of the way, and if you follow your instincts instead of second guessing them, you’ll get where you’re going much faster. We all have the ability to delay ourselves by going against our intuition, but we will ultimately arrive where we’re meant to be regardless of how we choose to get there.
You can make life easier for yourself by trusting what you know to be true rather than allowing other people to guide you. Other people can only see things from their limited perspective, and they have no idea what’s coming up for you along the path. Your higher self is the designer of who you are and your path itself, and they can act as your spotter from above at all times. If you were in a racecar and you were being guided by other drivers on the track, you would surely fall victim to obstacles that can only be seen from above. This is why drivers have a spotter who sits high in the stands and can have a bird’s-eye view of the race. Your higher self operates from above this way, but they communicate with you through your thoughts, your body’s cues, and physical sensations rather than a radio.
When you become more aware of this guidance, you’ll realize that you are better off without unsolicited advice from others, even when they have good intentions. Their perspective is likely not an accurate portrayal of your circumstances because it’s filtered through their fears, doubts, and limitations as a person. Furthermore, some people who are attempting to sway you don’t have your best interest in mind at all. Others will sometimes try to manipulate you to serve their own needs and desires, and falling into a pattern of allowing those people to control your life will always yield frustrating results. If you’ve been working to take your power back from toxic patterns, this is an important cycle to close in order to avoid chasing your tail. If you trust yourself enough to be the leader of your life, you’ll be rewarded by avoiding painful delays, and you’ll find joy in living your true life’s purpose. You’re the only one who can find the path that was created just for you.
