Navigating Deep Emotional Waters
We are all collectively navigating deep emotional waters right now, and we are being asked to let go of the heavy baggage we’ve been carrying before the next phase of our journey. It can be tempting to hold onto that baggage because it feels so familiar that it seems like it’s part of our identity. However, this weight is too dense to pass through the portal with us into our new reality, and it threatens to pull us under emotionally if we refuse to release it. If you’re feeling this harsh tug pulling you to the bottom of your emotional well, I would suggest doing anything you can to stimulate the letting go process in your mind, body, and spirit. Giving yourself time to recharge intentionally and come back to yourself can make a big difference in how you feel emotionally and physically.
Meditation can be helpful sometimes, but it can feel overwhelming if your thoughts are already running away with you and tugging at your heartstrings. If you try guided meditation and you find that it’s not helpful for you at this stage, I would begin with a gentle grounding practice to help you recenter yourself energetically in your body. You might like to sit outdoors near a tree, get your bare feet on the ground, watch moving water, or take a short walk outdoors and focus on your feet moving steadily beneath you. If the weather is uncomfortable or unsafe for your body, take the opportunity to ground indoors with some healing frequency music, light a candle and watch the flame dance, journal about your recent experiences and feelings, or sit near a window and observe nature in quietude.
We could all use more opportunities to slow down and take care of ourselves. If you’re able to give yourself a day or even just a few hours to ground your energy, you can greatly impact the way you move through your life. Chaos comes for us all at various times, and it can be tempting to keep your head down and power through when things get crazy. If you find yourself relying on disassociation and distraction to get through your daily life, I would suggest trying other coping strategies that help you remain connected in your body to assist with feelings of overwhelm and despair. In my experience, the chaotic energy will continue to grow until you face it and find a way to remain balanced despite whatever is occurring in your external world.
It is tempting to find ways to escape our difficulties, but if we can find ways to face them without running from ourselves we can move through our experience with a greater sense of ease and flow. The current of life and our spiritual path are always bringing us to the next step, and resisting that pull leads to delays and frustration. Letting go can be scary because we prefer to feel like we’re in control, but once we allow ourselves to relinquish that perceived control we can truly step into our power by existing in the present moment. We are never truly in control of our lives or our path, but resistance gives us the illusion of control because we are able to temporarily stall our progress at will. By the same token, if we attempt to force things to happen in our external experience before the timing is right, we can ruin beautiful opportunities that were meant for us down the road.
Instead of trying to slow things down or speed them up, we have the chance to let go and allow our lives to unfold before us every moment of every day without judgment. It’s not about where you think you should be on the path. It’s about where you truly are, which is where you’re meant to be. If we can move past the pressure we feel to be where the world says we should be, we can accept that there is a purpose in where we are. Each difficulty we face has been carefully planned and brought into our life for a specific purpose at a particular time. Every season of life has something to offer us, even the darkest parts. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and trust that you’re headed somewhere you were always meant to go. When you make it there, you’ll understand why you had to walk this path in order to arrive just in time.
