Intuition Whispers First
When I was younger, before I stepped fully into my gifts and abilities, my intuition would whisper to me when I needed it the most. I found that whenever I was lost or looking for something in particular, I could sense which direction I was meant to go in. My guides would give me turn by turn directions as long as I could center myself and wait patiently for them to pull me energetically in one way or the other. I had a powerful sense of inner knowing about many things, but since I couldn’t prove them concretely, I doubted myself and the truth even though I could feel it resonating in my body. I always knew that my intuition was powerful and that I could tap into something greater than myself, but it took years to hone these abilities and to finally trust them more fully.
One prominent example where my guides were giving me turn by turn directions will stay with me forever. I was in downtown Seattle in August of 2014, in a strange city for the first time. I had leftovers from a fancy dinner, and there was no microwave in my hotel room. I didn’t want this expensive food to go to waste, and I had a sense of inner knowing that someone would be grateful to receive it. I was on foot in a big city, and I prayed for guidance to find this person. I immediately felt a pull leading me forward, and each time I came to an intersection, I had to stop and wait to feel which direction to choose next. My partner at the time thought I was insane, but he kept following me anyway. I told him that I knew I would find someone on the street who needed this meal, and I confidently kept moving forward.
It felt like we were walking through a hedge maze because we turned many times. We were starting to doubt that we’d find our way back to our rental car. We had passed many people experiencing homelessness on our way to the restaurant, but there were no people in sight for several blocks on this journey. I continued to press forward until we walked up to a woman who was selling her paintings on the sidewalk. The paintings weren’t particularly good, but I felt this intense pull to talk to her and I insisted that we buy a couple of her pieces. I reluctantly asked her if she might know someone who would want the leftovers I was carrying. She immediately said that she wanted them, and she explained that she was living in a psychiatric care group home a couple blocks away.
At this point, I felt lit up on the inside like there were a million tiny dancing lights moving through my body. I knew that we were meant to find her, and we asked if she needed anything else. She took us to the group home and went in to grab one of her friends, and we ended up walking to a nearby convenience store to help them with some snacks and toiletries they needed. I was overwhelmed by this opportunity to show love to those in need, and I knew that I was guided to these women because they needed compassion and acceptance. They were so surprised that we were willing to help, and they were overjoyed with this sudden opportunity to shop for things they couldn’t otherwise afford. I’ve always felt good whenever I could help people in need, but this was a completely different level of excitement for me because it demonstrated that my intuition was as strong as I always thought.
I think I needed that confirmation of my gifts and abilities even more than they needed to receive a random act of kindness that day. My partner was dumbfounded that I actually managed to find someone for my leftovers despite his doubt and attempts to convince me to throw them away. He didn’t understand the pull I was feeling, and wanted to get back to our hotel. My inner knowing was so strong that I couldn’t ignore it, and this external validation of my ability to find someone I’d never met astounded me and gave me a new level of trust in my intuition. I could feel her energy calling out to me as soon as I decided to give the leftovers away, and I couldn’t ignore the pull once I felt it. I never doubted my intuition again after that, so I consider it to be one of the most pivotal moments of my life.
All of this to say, our intuition whispers to us long before it resonates throughout our bodies. We get little nudges that lead to an invitation to trust ourselves and find something we’re looking for. If you want to develop your intuitive gifts, I would encourage you to ask your guides to give you experiences like this one. If you have something in mind that you want to do to bless someone else, ask for that opportunity and watch it unfold before your eyes. Ask them to show you what you need to see about any given situation and be open to witnessing whatever they might show you. Use your discernment to determine what the signs mean, and lean into that understanding with trust and faith in your guides and your own abilities. Let them teach you how to walk before you try to run, and allow everything to unfold in divine timing right before your eyes.
